Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix Panel from NYCC. DD on Netflix is another bold move on Marvel’s part. The street level crimefighter battling to make us safe is particular fantasy tableau to present to a US audience struggling with the implications of a changing American city. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I was able to speak to the star and director of Storms of Carnage: The Black Panther Unleashed for Canada's Digital Journal .  With +14,000 views and climbing, the little fan film hints at the possible demand for a live action Black Panther film. Will Marvel Studios listen?

A great fan film based on Marvel's Black Panther.  Over the last decade the quality and scope of films coming from fandom has skyrocketed.  While major corporate owners are quick to stifle any attempt to make money, fan films continue to grow as non-profit exercises.  Many showcase the skills of all involved.  A smart move would be to create some path for these creators to move into producing content license holders.  Top Cow's Talent Hunt competition does this in comics, YouTube can easily do this as well.

The Flash could be another Arrow!!!! It is my contention that perhaps no superhero character highlights the reality of the postwar expectation and anxiety than Wally West.  While Golden Age superhero provided a reflective and aspirational narrative linked to the rise of the United States, the Silver Age Flash highlighted the strain associated with post WWII realities.   This television adaptation could be ripe with the same kind of symbolism.

  With roots that run deep in U.S. popular culture, Marvel's 75th anniversary offers an opportunity to assess the cultural legacy from the "House of Ideas."  Long lauded for its emotive storytelling and engaged fandom, Marvel contemporary experience cannot be divorced from broader media concerns. The success of Marvel Studios adapting Silver Age characters to the big screen has made Disney, Marvel's parent company the home of two fantasy franchises with major cultural appeal (the other being Star Wars ).  The question become is the new Marvel merely a tool to deliver media ready content or is it still a house with ideas that challenge the audience and intrigue newcomers?

   The drum beat to the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who grows ever louder. Still this particular short film addresses a question I've had about Doctor Who for a long time.  As I consider the impact of superhero in a global context , Doctor Who strikes me as singular example of an organic creation of a  superhero archtype in different cultural context.  Doctor Who, based on the definition of the superhero defined by Peter Coogan in his book, Superhero: The Secret Origins of A Genre , is a superhero. As Coogan explains, the superhero acts as an orienting figure that resolves conflicts and contradictions. Furthermore,  Coogan argues mission, powers, identity, and costume are the elements that distinguish the superhero from other kinds of heroes. A careful examination of the Doctor demonstrates that the character has all of these elements.  The Doctor's adventures since 1963 have offered a global audience a vision of superhero cas...

Thor: The Dark World is a better film than 2011's Thor . Many people were not excited by Thor, but Thor: TDW would not have been possible without the solid foundation created Kenneth Branagh 's vision in the first film.  In many ways, the source of Thor: TDW's superiority rests on the extension to the first film.  Characters are more engaging, Asgard and the nine realms given a bigger scope, and key elements of the Marvel Comics print universe Asgard are presented and embellished for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  This was a great movie going experience. I don't want to spoil anything, but there is a tremendous Captain America: Winter Soldier   clip before and an amazing post credit sequence. In many ways, Thor: TDW adds to our understanding of Marvel Studio Phase 2 events and sets up an awesome Thor 3!
